Southern Mini Days - Hop Farm - August 3rd 2008

A last minute decision and three club members decided to head south for the 2008 Southern Mini Day show. Our little party consisted of, Alan, and myself, John would meet us at the show. I met Alan at Birchanger services on the M11 at around 08:30, had a quick chat and a stretch of legs before blatting down the M11, M25 and M20, Boris behaved well despite the heavy load of bits I was hoping to sell. Arrived at around 09:30 and set up our little camp where John joined us having arrived about 20 minutes earlier. I'd hardly unpacked the bits when one chap walking by pounced on a twin SU air filter box - That paid for my entrance fee. Bacon butties were soon cooked and consumed and we were ready for the show. I wanted to buy an SU H4 float needle feeling sure that one could be had. Wrong! The likes of Somerford, Minispeed, Jonspeed, Minishop,Huddlesfield spares etc, etc all seemed to have a stock answer. Yea'h but not here today, ring the shop and we'll sell you one. Now all the stalls were heaving with every conceivable bit you could ever want, but not a wretched float needle - drat. Unfortnately I did not manage to sell anything else today, nor did I buy anything so I ended up with a cheap day out (if you ignore the petrol cost). Today I logged the mileage which was 226 miles from door to door (round trip). From my calculations it would appear that Boris achieved 50.2 miles to the gallon (4.5 gallons used)at a steady 60mph on the motorways, on that note I'll sign off....Maddy
