Southern Mini Days - Hop Farm August 2006

After a gap of about 5 years several of us decided to visit Southern Mini Days at Hop Farm. We left Birchanger services at around 09:15 and made our way down via the M11, M25 & M20. Boring on the motorways as usual but it did make for a quick trip.

Paid our £8.50, collected our goodie bags and set off to see what was what. With hardly any wind the showground was very hot and close. We tried to make as much use of the shade as we could, but as the show covered a huge area there were long gaps without any, Phew! One stand which caught our eye was displaying converted minis with big engines, Vtec and so on. (see pictures).

Alan bought a few bits and bobs for his son. I on the other hand could not find what I was looking for which was to have been a new steering rack for my clubby estate (BORIS). After a couple of hours or so with tummies rumbling we decided to get us some beefburgers - quite good, but a bit high priced. With the burgers disposed of it was time for another wander around the showground. By this time several activities were in progress in the main arena, some stunt driving, noisiest horn, loudest exhaust and so on and really quite entertaining.

Having seen virtually all of the show we decided to leave quite early to avoid the worst of the traffic, made a slight detour into Tunbridge Wells to tank up before hitting the motorways for the long drive back. In conclusion, a good show and we may go back next year. This is Maddy signing off for Mini Folk United.
