Ongoing Sub-frame report #3

Wednesday 23rd May - Tuesday evening. Cris arrived to finish off the sub-frame replacement. 1) The hand-brake cables were attached to the rear drums and hand-brake lever. 2)The exhaust pipe was offered up and secured. 3)Rear brakes and hand-brake lever adjusted. 4)With Cris pumping the brake pedal Maddy bled the brakes, it was at this point a problem was encountered. The drivers side rear brake had no braking effort, one by one the joints were cracked to see if fluid was passing through the pipes - all was well until the brake cylinder was reached - no movement was observed at the brake shoes. The shoes were removed so that Maddy could check out the pistons - seized solid! Out with the pipe grips and with a bit of elbow grease they were eased off. Success, the pistons now moved in and out, back on with the shoes and brake drum. Re-adjusted the brake and bled the system again - all brakes working correctly now.
Finally the battery was re-connected, petrol tank refilled and the engine started. Cris took the car out for a quick drive around the block to test the brakes - A.O.K. The car is now ready for the weekend ahead. Look for the car at the NMOC show - Fakenham - Sunday 27th May

Cris would like to thank Maddy & Alan for helping to fit the new sub-frame.
