Ongoing Sub-frame report
Cris has bought some repair panels for the sub-frame mounts and Alan is coming over from Bishops
Stortford to do the welding (Saturday afternoon). The Sub-frame is all painted up and ready for
installation. When Cris was removing the adjustable suspension units from the old Sub-frame one of the adjusters was seized solid. We had no option than to
cut the Sub-frame so that it could be removed. Unfortunately Cris also broke the main brake pipe to the balancer unit, so now we have to replace the whole pipe or
splice in a new piece. Maddy took the seized suspension unit in to work so that the workshop lads could free off the adjusting bolt. Would it budge!
would it heck. In the end they had to heat the Aluminium block so that it would expand allowing the bolt to turn, this eventually worked. The bolt threads
were badly corroded and had to be cleaned up, likewise the threads in the Aluminium block were cleaned as well, finally the bolt was greased and the unit
re-assembled. The brake balancer was cleaned up too and received a coat of silver Hammerite paint.
We'll have more to report on Sunday when hopefully the work is completed - pictures too.
