Members car's rolling reports.

This month, report by Cris Melamud.

Big trouble with Cris's motor - Today Saturday 12th Cris decided to change the rear subframe on his estate. First we had popped into Ely to pick up a new subframe from John Burton. With this done it was back to Littleport to Maddy's garage. Soon we had the car up on axle stands, front wheels chocked, battery disconnected and the rear wheels off, the exhaust pipe was removed and all was clear. Maddy's job was to paint the new subframe with Hammerite colour blue. Cris meanwhile was busy under the car removing the trunnion bolts. As with old cars you never know if the job will go well - the rear trunnion bolts came out easily enough but, Oh my - yep, Cris broke off the heads of three bolts whilst the last one turned merrily around. Maddy suspected that the captive nut had rotted away which later turned out to be the case. Cris had no option other than to pull the subframe away with the reluctant bolt in tow.

As the pictures show there is extensive rot on the rear bulkhead subframe mounting points. Cris now has to buy some repair panels and to find someone to do the welding work. We'll have more on this soon. We'll keep you posted.
