Members car's rolling reports.
Jon Collins reports 11/04/2007.
Once I had tracked down a working set of Hydrlastic displacers, everything on the 1970 Clubman began to fall into place. On taking the Hydro' units to the bodyshop, I spotted the rolling shell sitting in the corner with all the welding completed. It's been six months since I'd last seen the car, and even though it isn't yet sprayed, it's a massive transformation from the rusty lopsided Mini that left in July last year.
All the panels are Heritage stuff, and with not so much as one pattern panel on the entire car, the bodywork is excellent. The car has had the following panels fitted. New front end wings, A panels and lower screen scuttle as well as a lower rear panel, but underneath needed far more work doing. New sills (inner and outer) were needed as over sills had been put on at one stage, heel board, rear valence, boot floor repairs, plus rebuilding of the nearside door post.
Just about the only bits that did not need repair were the doors, bonnet, boot and roof panel! I don't suppose I'll have the car ready by the July deadline I originally set, but I'm hoping to have it on the road by September, because I'd like to show it at the BL spares show, Peterborough...John Collins.
PS: Pictures to follow shortly.
