I'm happy to report that BORIS the 79 clubby estate is rolling along nicely now. The new engine has settled down after laying dormant for over a year before it was fitted some weeks ago. I did not mention in my previous reports that I had fitted the carburettor from the 1100 engine - that was a big mistake on my part. Although the engine would start alright and drive quite well the idle setting was impossible to set correctly, first it would speed up and then slow down, very annoying when coming up to a junction as the engine would promptly die - most embarrassing when you are stopped at traffic lights etc; In desperation I gave Simon a ring and described what was going on. His first question was "Did you fit the carburettor which came with the engine". I confessed that I had not. "well I suggest that's what you should do as the carb is matched to that engine" With the new carburetor fitted all the problems went away. Last week I took the car to Richard at Head racing developments to have the CO2 and the timing checked. With great surprise we found that the CO2 was running at 3% and the timing was spot on which meant that we did not have to do any tweaking. What a result and all in less that 10 minutes. I'll be giving the engine an oil change next weekend now that it has effectively been run in. .............. Madeline
