John Burton reports 21/02/2007.
My mini needed a new alternator as it was only putting out 11 volts at 2000 rpm with
nothing switched on! The manual quotes a figure of 14.4v at idle with just a couple of things switched on. I realised something was up when I flashed a mini and my stereo promptly died. To correct this I bought a new alternator from mini spares for £60 which is rated at 70 Amps instead of 55 Amps for the standard unit, so it provides a little more juice. I also bought new earth straps for the engine and battery, these weren't part of the problem but thought the car would benefit from them. These were fitted after the alternator had been replaced........................................... John Burton
