John Collins report 16/02/2007.

Mini Clubman VKM 236H. Progress on the bodywork had been rapid before Christmas, I received a lot of scary pictures of the Mini's many rusty bits, including most of the repairs that had been done over the three decades the car was on the road. The wet suspension had caused so many headaches I'd begun to consider converting it to dry, even going so far as putting a wanted advertisment in Mini Mag. Maddy came up with four displacers but the bodyshop man condemmed the lot, and Minspares quoted £311 each for new displacers they had in stock. However, this morning (Saturday 10th) my latest Mini Mag dropped through the door, and within an hour the phone went. It was a local trader (Just Mini's, Benfleet, Essex - 01268 799963) who had four good ones in stock, plus a rear subframe at £300 the lot. Needless to say I didn't think twice and have bought them; the subframe (and radius arms) will be sold ASAP. Amazing coincidence - the traders business partner is the Mother in Law of the guy doing the bodywork! Not only that, I'd got the car from a guy Maddy sold her first mini to, and at a show one year I met a fella who lived in Sawston who had spent months trying to track VKM 236H down in order to buy it ..........................................
