Mersea Mini Meet 2007 - John Collin's view.
Sunday 16th September - The Only notable thing about Mersea Island, south of Colchester, is that it was the childhood home of singer and car nut Jamiroquai, Oh, and now a little Mini Event. 160 Mini's converged on a field at Waldegraves Camp Site, barely a few yards from the seafront on a warm Sunday. Before the event began there was a road run round the Island, Maddy jumped in the Neon as we set off to cause chaos on some very narrow lanes. One rather Tweedy local woman, stuck in the Mini Jam, asked indignantly "do you all have to come down this way?" Well, yes actually!
The run was well organised - those in charge of other certain events could learn a thing or two:- when the convoy went through West Mersea Town, Marshalls stopped traffic at every junction, and we took full advantage. Trade stands were minimal but this wasn't that kind of show, more a relaxing end - of season bash. The only disappointment for me was that the advertised loudest horn contest didn't happen - it's the one thing the Neon had a chance of winning! Never mind, it's good to have a show that's local.....
