Luton festival of Transport - 13th June 2010
As I had not been to this show for some years I thought I'd give it a go. Alarm goes off at 07:30 climbed out of bed pulled a comb across my head and wiped the sleep from my eyes, glanced out of the window and was greeted with grey skies and a slight drizzle. On with the TV to check the weather report - luckily the forecast was good so rolled Mortie the 66 cooper out of the garage and set off for Luton town. The trip took around an hour and a bit arriving at Stockwood park at about 10:25. The show ground was packed out with classic cars and trucks of every description plus a few mini club stands. I parked up with the Mini Rebels club who were glad to accommodate me, they even attached a balloon to Mortie. I'd met some of their members at Knebworth a couple of weeks ago so we had a good old natter. John Collin's old mini was on their stand as well and I had a chat with the new owner.
After relaxing for a half hour and a nice cup of coffee it was time for me to take a turn around the trade stalls to see if there were any bargains to be had, well actually yes, there was a key cutter there who managed to cut a new petrol cap key for me, now this particular key is a weird beast and none of the local key cutters had any blanks suitable but this chap did. A few minutes work and I had at last a spare key - its only taken ten years to get a spare made but not for the want of trying mind you. I now longer live in fear of being stranded if the old key was to be lost or broken. As I've said - the show was heaving with cars and trucks and I wandered around snapping those that appealed to me. My particular favourite was an Bedford 1946 flat bed articulated truck which was absolutely fabulous - the paint work was gleaming and as smooth as silk. The owner had used 2 pack paint for the job and it's the best I've ever seen. That's enough of my rambling now so enjoy the pictures folks..............Maddy
BMC 1100 with a trailer made out of a back half - bet he copied mini owners for that!.
This truck was brilliant - just look at that gleaming paint work.
