LITTLEPORT VILLAGE SHOW REPORT 2005
Today (Saturday 23rd) and I was off to the Littleport village show. Alan drove up from Bishops Stortford and met me at my house which is all of some 300 metres from the show. Quite the shortest journey to a show that I ever have to do. The show was already in full swing when we arrived. We spotted another mini which drove over to us. It turned out that this was the first show the owner had attended, his name was Marcus and soon we were chatting like old friends. He showed us a comprehensive history of his car (see report at foot of this page).
Now on to the show itself and the many attractions. These included a motorcycle display team, Birds of prey, heavy horse and carrige driving, a jump from a fifty foot ladder onto a large pile of sponges. Static displays included a wall of death using motorcycles, classic and vintage cars, agricultral section with many different tractors and equipment. There was a truly magnificent display of British motobikes. I spotted AJS, Greaves, BSA and Triumph, Royal Enfield and so on which all brought back many memories of the 60's. There were many stalls selling a variety of goods. Being a hot day the beer tents were doing a roaring trade as was the splendid fish and chip wagon (very good chips by the way).
At 2:30 we had the classic vehicle display - the tractors first and then the cars and motorcycles. After a drive round the field we posed for the people around the showground. At the conclusion of the parade those cars which had displayed were presented with a fine bottle of wine. Special thanks to Peter Mitchell and Tom Constable for organising the classic car section of the show. New images added 24/07/2005 Enjoy..........ROVER
