Hilgay Classic Car and Farm Machinery show 2011 - 13th August

This was my second visit to this wonderful little show, this time Alan came up from Bishops Stortford to keep me company. Alan used to be an agricultural worker and was interested in seeing the old farm implements. We left for the show at 10 O'clock and arrived at approx 10:15, it is only 7 miles from Littleport. Despite the mizzling rain many tractors and stationary engines were in place along with some classic cars - not many as we think the rain had put them off, never mind the show is on again Sunday when the weather should be more congenial. At 12 midday the classic cars were invited into the arena for a drive past and chat with the MC. My car held the milage record with some 168,000 miles on the clock, with 7 owners since 1966 not an unreasonable figure. Around 1 O'clock the sun decided to start shining in earnest and the air became rather muggy and the heat built up rapidly, I'm glad Alan remembered to bring his Parasol which provided some relief from the sun's rays. As I reported on last years show I am the owner of a stationary engine which is still being restored. At the moment it is being repainted. I've had to repair the Carburettor and Magneto before it would start - glad to say it starts well and the only thing left to do is cosmetic in nature. As Alan had a long drive back to Bishops Stortford we left at 3 O'clock. Wonderful show and a most definite tick for next season. This Maddy signing off.
